Ivan and I were traveling through India. I thought that we were headed to Varanassi. But, Ivan said we were off on a plane to somewhere. Ivan surprised me by taking her to Udaipur for her birthday. Udaipur is the most romantic city in India. Ivan booked a three day package at the Taj Lake Palace. This palace is an actual palace which is on a lake. It’s featured in the movie Octopussy.
It was such a treat to be staying at this beautiful palace. The food was lovely and the staff were so friendly. We enjoyed Indian dancing in the courtyard and took a city tour in a classic car.
On the day of my birthday, Ivan said we were off to the mainland for dinner. We boarded the boat and drove to a floating platform. Ivan set up a private dinner on the lake between palaces. How lovely and romantic!! He even chose the menu which was presented on a scroll. There was floating candles in a bowl and music playing.
The food was brought by boat. Our server would leave us between courses, so we could have privacy. The server told us that fireworks would be going off in a few minutes.
We got lots of desserts of chocolate and a chocolate birthday cake. I even got a pink bouquet of bougainvillea flowers that I told Ivan I liked.
Ivan asked the server to leave, which he did a few minutes later. We ate our desserts. Ivan put on “Can’t Take My Eyes Off You” by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. I was going to say how we were planning to dance to this song at our wedding. Ivan said I have a question for you and got down on one knee with a box in his hand. He threw me off guard. I was thinking No, You Don’t in my head. I couldn’t believe what was happening. He said “Will you marry me?”. I started crying. I was so overjoyed that I couldn’t answer him. I just kept crying. I finally said “Yes”. I told him to put the ring on my finger. I thought that’s what he was supposed to do. I couldn’t see it that well with the candlelight. It was a beautiful heart ring surrounded by diamonds.
I was so happy!! It was the best birthday and such a romantic proposal.
